Orientation
The fellows will participate in a five-day orientation program each
year. (For fellows selected this year, this program will take place
in January 2005. Attendance at this program is required.) The fellows
will actively participate in shaping the programs. Fellows will meet
together for small group sessions, interactive exercises, shared projects,
presentations, expert consultations, and planning sessions with the
members and faculty of the Institute. The content of the programs
will be developed collaboratively between the fellows and the members
of the Institute, and will include the following:
- Enhancing teaching effectiveness
- Leadership, negotiation and conflict resolution
strategies
- Improving public advocacy and media relations skills
- Program evaluation and research methods (including
methods of continuous quality improvement)
Mentors
Members and faculty of the Institute will serve as
advisors, mentors, and resources to the fellows to support their professional development
throughout the program. In addition, the program staff will develop mechanisms for
fostering networking and collaboration among fellows and between fellows and relevant
organizations. All fellows will be expected to have E-mail capability through the
Internet. (MUSC will provide access for those who do not already have an account).
