Growing Tourism
Nearly $1 billion worth of attractions are being added in the state each year.
Recent major projects include the $36 million Ripley's Sea Aquarium in Myrtle
Beach's entertainment complex, which opened in 1998.  Similarly, international
events which will help put South Carolina in the spotlight include golf's World
Cup in November at Kiawah Island, where the Ryder Cup was held in 1991.
Meanwhile, a heritage corridor stretching 240 miles from the foothills of the
Blue Ridge Mountains to the coast at Charleston is being developed over the
next decade.

The Blue Ridge Mountains
This range is more than 6,500 feet high and home to several state parks and
recreation areas. There are facilities for hiking, canoeing, camping, fishing and
rock-climbing. Blowing Rock is a unique rock formation whose strange air
currents from the Johns River Gorge return objects thrown from clifftops.
